Admins and managers, Custom permissions that allow for Inventory/Take Inventory access.
This feature works with a mobile device's built in camera to scan barcodes to quickly lookup an item on the account's item list or pull up a linked item during an inventory session. Any Barcode can be assigned to any item. Backbar does not currently integrate with any external hardware/laser readers etc.
Scanner is not available on the desktop version of Backbar
Once in your items list, or in your inventory session, tap the barcode icon on the right side of the Search field to pull up the scanner.

Once you tap on the barcode icon, the scanner screen will open. You must allow camera access in your mobile device system settings or the screen will be blocked or appear black.
Center the UPC/barcode in the lightened section in the middle of the scanner screen. This is a video read of the barcode, and in low light conditions it may be necessary to enable the flashlight to illuminate the code for reading. Tap the Flash icon to turn on/off the flashlight.

If the item in inventory has the matching barcode listed, the item will pull up after the read. If the item does not have an assigned barcode the item may be sent into the 'add a new item' workflow. Follow those steps to Add a new item or select Assign to existing. Whenever possible, select a match from our global database to align item information when creating a new item.
If the item exists and is being suggested as "new" it will be necessary to add the barcode to the item details. Tap the Assign to existing and follow the steps to select the product and package to align the barcode.
You may also navigate to the Inventory Items list, and search for the item by name in the search bar. Tap into the item and scroll down to the UPC/barcode section.
You can add a case and a unit UPC separately. To link a barcode, tap "Link Barcode" and then scan the barcode on the unit or case packaging to confirm the linkage. If there is an incorrect UPC code listed, you may tap the "X" next to the current listing to remove. Barcodes can be typed in numerically on the desktop/website version of Backbar, but not scanned there.

Any barcode can be assigned to any item. Or product database is exclusively beverage products, so for foodstuffs and non-beverage items, it will be necessary to manually align the codes to an existing or fully new item.
