Yes, you can take inventory for a recipe by creating a custom item.
Recipes in Backbar are simply instructions, and are not considered an item that can be counted. In order to count recipes just like any other inventory item, follow these steps:

First, create the recipe you'd like to track.

Then, go to Inventory items > Add item > Other item.

Name the new item and enter the Recipe Yield as the item size.
This will create an item that can then be inventoried, but the recipe and the item do operate as separate entities. For example you can map a POS button to the recipe, but it will not deplete the item that has been created, just the recipe ingredients. Alternatively you can map to the new item, but then the individual ingredient levels do not deplete.
